Clinical Assistant Professor - Educational Leadership and Policies

The Department of Educational Leadership and Policies at the University of South Carolina seeks applications for a 9-month clinical position in higher education at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2022. The successful applicant will teach courses in the HESA M.Ed. program and the Education Systems Improvement Ed.D. program that reflect the candidate’s teaching/research interests and program area needs in higher education and student affairs. The teaching load is four courses per academic semester, with the potential for course buyout based on administrative needs. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to infusing equity, social justice, and diversity into pedagogical practices.

The Educational Leadership and Policy Department (EDLP) includes internationally recognized scholars with expertise in K-12 and higher education leadership. The department comprises multiple programs and centers, including the Center for Innovation in Higher Education, Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA), Community College Leadership, K-12 Educational Leadership, and the South Carolina Education Policy Center. We strive to be a department that is committed to equity, inclusion, justice, and diversity through our service, advisement, mentorship, teaching, and scholarship. The department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and service toward building equitable and inclusive scholarly environments. 

We especially welcome candidates with a focus on issues such as college student affairs (including student identity, access, equity, and transitions for student success), legal and financial issues in higher education, and community college administration and leadership. 

The responsibilities of the position include: teaching and advising in the Higher Education and Student Affairs M.Ed. program and in the online Ed.D. program in Education Systems Improvement, as well as serving on department/college committees.

Required Education and Experience

Successful candidates must have: 

  1. An earned doctorate in higher education, student affairs, or a closely related field of study by the time of appointment (August 2022).
  2. Evidence of previous professional experience in higher education and student affairs.
  3. Active participation in/experience with NASPA, ACPA, or other similar professional associations (e.g., ACUHO-I, NODA, NACA, ASHE, AERA) 


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Evidence of collaborating with university staff, faculty, and students. 
  2. Experience advising M.Ed. and Ed.D. students.
  3. Demonstrated teaching experience in higher education courses.
