Messages From ODEI Staff

ODEI’s Diaspora Literacy series [pdf] launches this month beginning with Indigenous Diaspora Literacy on November 10 and African Diaspora Literacy on December 1. All sessions will begin at 6 pm. Please register if you have not already done so.

A few holidays in November:

  • November is Native American Heritage Month: celebrating the culture and heritage of individuals who deeply enrich the United States.
  • 10/31-11/2 – All Saints Day/All Souls Day/Día de los Muertos: commemorates those who have passed away in the Christian faith and Mexican and Aztec communities
  • 11/16 – International Day for Tolerance (United Nations): founded by the UN to promote respect for various religions, languages, ethnicities, and cultures
  • 11/16 – Dutch American Heritage Day: established to celebrate the longstanding friendship between the U.S. and the Netherlands
  • 11/20 – Transgender Day of Remembrance (LGBTQ+): seeks to remember those who were murdered due to transphobia

Stay well!

The office of ODEI Spearheaded a campaign to acknowledge and celebrate district Teachers of the year. We partnered with Athletics to have several recent Alum of the college of education celebrated during an on-field recognition in front of a sold-out crowd against Texas A&M. Photos featured below.

Happy Thanksgiving from the ODEI Team. May the warm glow of autumn surround you as you celebrate the holiday with family & friends. Please continue to send future submissions to my email by the third Friday of each month.
